Question: Discuss about the Strategic Health Workforce Issue Paper. Answer: Introduction With growing complexities in the modern world and diversification, all around it is noted that, it is very significant to incorporate a capable leadership in relation to aged care services. The sole purpose of the aged acre vision is that to maintain the sustainability in the sector and suggests ways that would help in more improvement of the industry. In regards to this, attempts have been made in the study to provide a detailed discussion on the rationality of the strategic workforce and the key issues that was identified in lieu of the given subject. In addition to that, efforts have been made in the study to give a brief overview on the goals and the objectives of the workforce that is required in order to bring a change in the current system. Furthermore, attempts have been made in the study to briefly describe the critical factors that are used in distinguishing the factors. For the purpose of the study, Development of leadership capacity to support and lead the aged care workf orce in innovation and reform has been selected as the subject of the research. Rationality of strategic workforce issues After some time, these issues have prompted a significant change in the matured care workforce profile, where matured care administrations are currently staffed progressively via mind labourers (non-authorized workforce) who have restricted learning or abilities in matured or perpetual care. Changes in the workforce profile have additionally brought about a reduction in quantities of administrative staff accessible to administer and give authority inside the segment. Staff deficiencies, low levels of staff training, low levels of abilities in the claim to fame range, and diminished vocation prospects for matured care staff contrasted and their intense and group partners, all join to impact the nature of care administrations given in the matured care area (Moran, Steketee Marles, 2015). Such patterns are not restricted to Australia. The main strategy is to deal with Aged Care with proper workforce, in regard to this the workforce will needed proper guidance and training form the professional to deal with handle and care. the work should be divided on the basis of to the team to follow up the aged people. As the Aged people needs more care than the half aged people. Moreover the aged people are so delicate as they are not so strong to do things on their own. As a result the Aged people need constant care. so the strategies must be made on this as it is very important aspect form the point of view of the Health Care unit. There is a developing acknowledgment of the need to put a more prominent accentuation on the nature of individual and authoritative administration capacities in matured care, given their effects on care quality and security and staff results. Making a steady workplace is one of the key procedures to enhance staff maintenance in a division underestimated by ageist social mentalities. A steady workplace advances a solid administration mission where staff have 'sufficient supervision, access to proficient and enthusiastic support, the foundation of frameworks that give criticism to staff, (for example, standard staff examination), and the nearness of solid expert initiative. National and global confirmation indicate the critical impact of initiative and administration abilities on staff turnover, maintenance and employment fulfilment, nature of care, patient results and hierarchical proficiency. The high expenses of poor initiative and undesirable workplaces are appeared in staff disapp ointment, truancy, and high turnover. Poor initiative has been connected to high staff turnover, yet it is yet to be set up that poor authority and high staff turnover relate synergistically to diminish mind quality and increment benefit costs, for example, the extra expenses of treating urinary tract diseases and weight wounds in matured care occupants (Bjegovic-Mikanovic et al. 2014). The motivation behind this original copy is to portray the review plan and strategies for the principal group randomized controlled trial of a matured care particular administration program. The Celiac program was produced in acknowledgment of the issues plot above and the need to concentrate on the nature of clinical, individual and authoritative initiative and administration abilities in both private and group matured care benefits in Australia (Dickson Tholl, 2014). The point of the review is to decide the viability of a clinical and administrative authority program in matured care in enhancing workplace, workforce maintenance, and in addition mind wellbeing and quality, which have not been inquired about in the matured care segment. Authority is an expansive term with a different scope of uses relying upon the position and part of pioneers/supervisors. In matured care benefits, the centre chief's part includes guaranteeing that care quality and security happen through convenient and definite appraisal of care beneficiaries' wellbeing, improvement of treatment arrangements, and supervision of nursing staff and care specialists (Dickson Tholl, 2014). These part obligations recommend that administration capacities upgrade the centre director's utilization of positional expert in driving others to accomplish top-notch benefit results. However, little proof exists about the ideal approaches to empower centre administrators of matured care administrations to build up the initiative and administration abilities that are basic to the successful conveyance of great care. Requisite goals and objectives of the workforce The Framework identifies with the wellbeing workforce when all is said in done terms yet there is little in the draft about shoppers, deliberate labourers or carers. Methodologies to enhance instruction levels (e.g. secondary school fruition rates), especially for Native and Torres Strait islander individuals, carers, and provincial and remote groups will add to better wellbeing results. Various reviews affirm the way that more amounts of training are emphatically connected with longer life and better wellbeing all through the lifespan. Wide techniques to assemble wellbeing proficiency will expand the capacity of buyers, volunteers and carers to enhance their own wellbeing and those of those they tend to; to effectively explore the wellbeing framework; increment the achievement of treatment; and decrease the danger of medicinal mistakes. In respect of the Aged Care issue the objectives has to set as by establishing essential leadership skill among the workforce to deal with the stated issue and also to develop the structure of the complex workforce. Firstly the purpose should be lead by the set objective which encourages patient centred surroundings, Secondly build a better communicating skills to establish clinical engagement and productivity, Thirdly creating an emotional surrounding between the team member which helps to develop trust and transparency among them. And to develop a better workforce in this respect firstly limit the gap of cultural and linguistic issue and use them as an advantage to build a varied team. Secondly new innovative techniques has to be introduced to eradicate conflict resolution arising in varied circumstances, thirdly cost effectiveness tanning and other information regarding the care should be given to tackle any situation. This will not only help the leaders in enhancing their confide nce level, capability and flexibility in working but will provide development opportunities in the future s well. It would be best for the target to go for "more viable, proficient and available administration conveyance". The proposed methodologies and those prescribed in this accommodation expect to diminish the utilization of an exceedingly specific workforce, to build wellbeing advancement and preventive wellbeing exercises, to enhance reconciliation of care and general make a less complex more comprehensive wellbeing framework that gives more blast for the buck?. Prompt need ought to be given to expanding the quantity of Indigenous individuals in the wellbeing workforce. Other dire needs incorporate oral and dental wellbeing, psychological well-being, maternal and youngster wellbeing, and the matured care segment (Bjegovic-Mikanovic et al. 2014). The Alliance additionally has a specific enthusiasm for enhancing the number of pro wellbeing administration directors, an occasionally overlooked component of a successful wellbeing workforce for rustic and remote regions. Prompt activity is requi red to draw in and hold substitutions for the resigning workforce. As an case, the normal time of Australian medical caretakers is 45 years, and more than half of attendants will be thinking about retirement in the following 15-20 years in the meantime as the maturing populace will require larger amounts of care. The Alliance underpins techniques to move towards more adaptable and extended extents of practice upgrading the limit of the wellbeing workforce to take part in care that is more comprehensive and decreasing the requirement for shoppers to observe superfluously different specific specialists and to battle to explore the wellbeing framework. The aim is by all accounts to move towards the accessibility of various sorts of wellbeing experts who have a cross-disciplinary part and a more all encompassing way to deal with medicinal services. Such generalists could incorporate wellbeing framework, matured care organizers at local level to help customers explore the wellbeing, and matured care frameworks. These specialists should work in close relationship with Medicare Locals, Local Hospital Networks and the proposed matured care office. The workforce of the aged care services must be imparted with required knowledge and skills so that they are able to provide high degree of quality services. The part may be filled by a scope of individuals inside the wellbeing workforce, (for example, group medical caretakers, hone attendants, social specialists, and Aboriginal wellbeing labourers) or, then again, by individuals who are great coordinators however do not really have formal wellbeing proficient capabilities. In numerous wellbeing callings, new graduates could be said to have generalist? abilities inside that calling. Be that as it may, for vocation movement, numerous wellbeing experts have some expertise specifically ranges of the calling, or move into administration, bringing about lost those aptitudes to social insurance conveyance. The presentation of moti vating forces for wellbeing specialists to create advanced generalist? aptitudes furthermore, practice might be powerful in urging them to keep giving high calibre, comprehensive and coordinated care (Ozanne, Biggs Kurowski, 2014). Competent initiative is essential for addressing the difficulties confronted by supplier associations and for the proceeded with manageability of the business. The vision for the Aged Care Leadership Improvement Strategy is to reform the way Aged Care pioneers are created and bolstered to succeed, by: raising the profile of pioneers and administration in the Aged Care Industry lifting the certainty, limit, adaptability and flexibility of pioneers over the area through the arrangement of down to earth, feasible and future-focussed advancement open doors for pioneers at various levels educating and managing arranging and basic leadership concerning interest in administration improvement and applications for government subsidizing of prescribed authority advancement activities making an unmistakable and positive commitment to the more extensive acknowledgment of the polished methodology and estimation of the part overall. Evidence based strategies addressing the issues The focal difficulties confronting wellbeing pioneers, distinguished in the writing survey were the means by which best to: give initiative to administrations and suppliers that spotlights on customer and group require, and urges staff to draw in profoundly with shoppers, and view them as a rich wellspring of data to drive advancement, change and change assess the mind boggling and versatile nature of the wellbeing framework when making changes, where changes in one section may prompt proposed and unintended outcomes in different parts, and adjustment to changing structures and strategies might be utilitarian or useless address the divisions among expert gatherings, and fabricate limit about adaptable organization of the workforce and for multidisciplinary group mind increment the speed at which upgrades and advancements are produced and spread through the wellbeing framework fabricate authoritative societies that improve limit and resilience for advancement and change Lead wellbeing experts whose qualities and codes make them concentrate even more emphatically on the self-governance of their callings and patient or populace results than on authoritative or corporate results Manage elevated amounts of negativity and incredulity about the inspirations of pioneers in view of experience of various changes and rebuilds and the apparent disappointment of these endeavours to affect emphatically on clinical, preventive and hierarchical results give motivating forces to wellbeing experts to elevate development that prompts made strides group and patient results. Poor performance of specialist co-ops prompts unavailability of care and wrong care, which along these lines add to diminished wellbeing results as individuals are not utilizing administrations or are abused because of destructive hones. The last report of the Joint Learning Initiative plainly plots the significance of the workforce in performing administrations by expressing that wellbeing labourers number, quality and sort of polished methodology decide yield and efficiency. In addition to that, that they deal with alternate assets, that a huge piece of the wellbeing financial plan is spent on wellbeing labourers and that they incredibly affect advance. Various articles and records have announced issues identifying with administration arrangement because of poor execution of wellbeing specialists (Gibb, Freeman, Ballantyne Corlis, 2016). Poor execution comes about because of excessively few staff, or from staff not giving consideration as indicated by norms and not being receptive to the necessities of the group and patients. As Hughes et al. state: "Most execution issues can be ascribed to misty desires, abilities shortfall, asset or hardware deficiencies or an absence of inspiration" (Hughes et al., 2002). These causes are established in a falling flat wellbeing framework, low compensations, troublesome working and living conditions and unseemly preparing. This report views execution as a blend of staff being accessible, skilful, beneficial and responsive. With a specific end goal to address this confused field, the creators planned a system that streamlines the idea of execution and encourages promote investigation. Moreover adapting new evolution in the aged care services and improving the Quality of care to Aged people. the methods has to be used in where the management has to manage the increasing demand for aged care and the same way service that be provided should be handled with love and care. Practically implicate in the day to day operation as per the new modification if the Aged Care Legislation, meeting the increase number of patient adequate workforce should be trained to handle the situation. In order to ensure the quality of the services provided, the management of the aged care services must focus on the commitment towards the people who are availing their services. For improving better quality of care collaboration and better communication should be made with the clinical staffs and nurses to innovate new techniques and to handle diverse situation, team should be prepared to handle complex situation and act according to the situation should be develop in the workforce by providing necessary trainings and methods and lastly Accreditation Standards have to maintained to deal with workforce. Change management issues Challenges for authority in the division are far more extensive than monetary administration alone. They include Albeit 65% of office proprietors work just a single site, some little offices are getting to be progressively difficult to work as going concerns. While there are special cases, numerous associations are on the move from a cabin industry model to working as a supportable business. Matured Care pioneers need to the adaptability and versatility to take a gander at their business models with a view to maintainability over the long haul. Over-dependence on the clinical authority pathway Many Aged Care pioneers is medical attendants who started their parts with practically no improvement in initiative and administration capacities. On the off chance that they do not get these abilities, they need vital concentration and business intuition, and are regularly at danger of burnout (Crettenden et al. 2014). Unique condition Pioneers in littler associations frequently battle to keep crosswise over expanding request due to the maturing populace and quick change in care norms, directions, gerontology and other variables. Subsidizing and administrative difficulties and imperatives Changes to subsidizing and other administrative changes request pioneers equipped for evaluating how their associations will be influenced, and how to react properly. Numerous pioneers see this much-directed industry as confining advancement inside their associations and the area in general (Gibb, Freeman, Ballantyne Corlis, 2016). This applies to both Residential Care and Group Care. Group Care confronts specific difficulties as it moves from State to Republic organization, while quality benchmarks are presented and it confronts the conceivable usage of ACFI. Notoriety and view of Aged Care Industry Many Aged Care pioneers express the view that Aged Care has low status among wellbeing benefits and is not alluring to potential workforce participants. Contact with more than 240 Aged Min d Leaders showed that many seem to endure low confidence and an unwillingness to view themselves as pioneers. Many will yield their own particular leave qualifications, improvement openings and other work conditions for their staff. Most suppliers, especially those in provincial and remote areas, report significant trouble in pulling in and holding gifted individuals. This is somewhat auxiliary - the segment cannot coordinate the higher wages and saw less demanding working conditions that intense wellbeing administrations offer (Daly et al. 2013) Workforce and progression arranging these are regularly lacking because of the deficiency of suitably qualified individuals or potentially suppliers' failure to give an alluring business offer. Matured Care pioneers are overwhelmingly female, more than 45 years of age and dealing with a workforce that mirrors the broadest assorted qualities of social and semantic foundations. Pioneers that are more youthful are phenomenal, and frequently ha rd to pull in into the Industry for reasons recommended previously. Conclusion In light of the above study, it can be established that it is very significant to incorporate a capable leadership in relation to aged care services. Management Theory and Practice for Toshiba -myassignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about theManagement Theory and Practice for Toshiba. Answer: Introduction There is no such right thing an employee can always do in a corporate world. The ethical dilemmas are bound to happen in the workplace. An ethical dilemma is a situation where there are multiple options or choice need to be made but neither of the choice is acceptable as ethically. The recent accounting scandal of Toshiba has been in the news and doing the rounds. The investigators found out the evidences of inappropriate accounting practices being carried on by Toshiba to overstate their profits in multiple business units and that brings a financial crisis globally for Toshiba. The ethical dilemma that arise in Toshiba which resulted in biggest scandal is being narrated in this essay and is being critically evaluated. The theoretical concepts have been applied from managerial ethics for the critical examination of the dilemma faced by Toshiba. The examination and evaluation of the concepts which influences managerial practice in the said company. Lastly, the conclusion has been made that how leaders may ensure the organizational decisions being made ethically. This would be a quite complex decision to run a business ethically and make decisions keeping in mind the ethics to be followed by company but only after adopting such ethical practices at all levels of management ensures smooth flow of business for a long term (Carroll, 2014). Ethical Dilemma faced by Toshiba The most iconic brand Toshiba being caught up practicing illegal and unethical behavior by its senior executives including CEOs, they had amplified pre-tax profit in over six years. It was found in the investigations that the company was practicing unsuitable accounting practices from long in various business units which includes semiconductor unit, visual products unit etc. The misconducts of accounts took place in the year 2008 under CEO Atsutoshi Nishida when a global financial crisis was going rounds that affects Toshibas profits deeply and it continued till the next CEO, Norio Sasaki but ended up in a big scandal when Tanaka was in position of CEO in the company. The unsuitable accounting techniques and applications have been employed at different business units which created a biggest ethical dilemma and also they have booked their future profits in advance by pushing back their losses and charges in order to overstate their profits. The ethical dilemma was seen in the corporate leadership who have set some strict profit targets or challenges what they say to every business unit leader with an implication of no such failure will be accepted and the challenge was given at the end of quarter when it became impossible to fulfill the same as there is no time left to pertinently affect the unit. The valuation of inventory was found out to be improper which states the profit higher and gives a rise to fraudulent activities. This situation of dilemma was created in the work environment which forces the employees of Toshiba to adopt such inappropriate accounting techniques to overstate profits which was not ethically proven. The strictness in the corporate culture of Toshiba enables the advent of inappropriate accounting practice. This culture was prevalent in the every level of management and accountants as well who are the sole personal to adopt such unethical practice. This whole situation indicates a weak corporate governance who do not function in the company as it is required to be. Added to this there was another weak point founded that was poor functioning system of auditing and internal controls at each level of department in Toshiba. Every division presented in the business whether it is finance, accounts, risk management or corporate auditing division the internal controls were poor that they couldnt even identified the discrepancies in these divisions and the unsuitable behaviors which lead to such big scandal. Application of theoretical concepts of Managerial Ethics Managerial ethics are a set of principles that are guided by upper management for the conduct by managers to operate in the workplace. These principles and rules govern the behavior of a person in an organization with an instance of right and wrong. Now there are various types or theoretical concepts which can be applied to examine critically the dilemma experienced by Toshiba. By applying these two concepts of managerial ethics can provide mechanisms which protect employees from the ethical dilemma and improves the work in the organization. As per the ethical dilemma faced by Toshiba indicates the fault in leaders, they are the sole characters who forces their workers and employees to complete impossible targets in a less amount of time certainly this pressure of work makes them adopt such unsuitable practices in accounting to showcase the profits which was expected from them by their leaders. Here the concept of leadership who follows ethics while decision making for the organizati on can be applied (Ferrell, 2015). Leadership style a concept of managerial ethics is one of the effective style to improve the ethical issues arise in organization at any level (Shin, 2015). With leadership everyone is aware about what a leadership is about, it basically involves telling employees what needs to be done and how it is to be done in order to achieve targets. Leader has to see how they can get their work done by the time and get their best out of abilities and work to be performed ethically. By applying leadership concept in managerial ethics to examine the ethical dilemma faced by Toshiba, a leadership is an important role played by leaders of the organization at all levels for a successful management. To avoid dilemma in the critical work situations a strong leadership is required to be followed to influence employees and the workforce towards an achievable goal and be guided at each point of stage. As mentioned above the scandal which takes place leader has given unachievable target to their employees , the qualities of strong leaders are varied they just dont command but they lead their team keeping in mind their abilities to do particular work and set objectives which are achievable. When the command goes wrong in the heads of employees it forces them to adopt such malpractices to keep themselves secure in the organization (Johnson, 2017). The situation when they are being forced to work hard but in the time being where materiality affects it is not possible for them to perform ethically, such circumstances lead to stress over the employees and creates complexity in the environment they are left with no option but to work unethically which promises to work in their best resulting achievement of objectives set by their leaders. The ethical dilemmas created by the leader itself impose a bad image in the eyes of workers and employees but also in society which is again not acceptable on the other hand not suitable though for the long term plans of staying in the market (Moghadam, 2 016). Leadership defines a company and develops a trust relation with the employees, third party holders lastly the society. A leadership style gives a way to a leader that in what direction he has to go with his team, what traits he needs to adopt and follow in order to achieve targets. There are various styles available for leaders depending upon their abilities, attitude towards work situations, their philosophy and experience to lead, these factors help a leader to align with the leadership style which suited the best for the organization and proves to be beneficial in the later years of success (Dzuranin et al., 2013). Another theoretical concept which can be applied from managerial ethics to improve the ethical dilemma which was seen in Toshiba is ethical obligation. As we all know management ethics is an intermediate between occupational and organizational ethics, it emphasize on managers to control, plan, organize and coordinate in order to manage all these sort managerial ethics need to be applied with an ethical obligation. The ethical issues presented in relation to such parts and roles played by managers should be considered while planning and decision making for the organization as these issues would affect in future regarding profitability and long term plans of staying in market. Application of ethical obligation makes sure that organization is running by ethical disciplines who adopts ethical values in both factors internally and externally also their decision making. It was clear in the accounting scandal by Toshiba that internal control were poorly worked as they did not fulfill their duties aligned to them and failed to spot frauds and errors in the accounting techniques as well as financial statements which was over stated by profits, pushing back losses and bank charges (Fleischman et al., 2017). This fraud could have been detected easily by the auditors but they did not follow the procedure or applied ethics discipline in their work, let go off with what so ever was happening knowingly. The carelessness in this regard resulted into such big fraud creating financial crisis globally. Moral values are the sole element while performing different activities at all levels of management who would decide what is wrong and what is right in a given situation, avoid ethical dilemma if it occurs in such situation. Ethical obligation is almost same for every organization not much of change is required to be made in it while applying in various units, the ethical behavior influences personnel to work in accordance with the disciplines and rules made in order to legalism. E ven the auditors need to follow ethical obligation and rules to abide by that there wont be any chance in occurrence of errors and frauds (Ehrich et al., 2015). Concepts influencing managerial practice in Toshiba Toshiba is one of the renowned brand which was being caught in the biggest scandal in past years in accusations of unethical behavior by its CEOs. The revelations about the scandal was overstating the profits by pushing back all losses and few charges, they happened to be following unsuitable or inappropriate accounting practices. This situation indicates a poor corporate culture in Toshiba that made employees and workers to adapt illegal behavior in their accounting techniques. They did so, to fulfill the command given by their leaders which seems to be an impossible task to complete with. Here the ethical dilemma faced by employees and worker of the organization was being forced by their superiors to work on an impossible and unachievable target within a less amount of time. They were being threaten indirectly by their leaders to achieve those high targets and the failure to do so will not be accepted, when a leader poses such image in the minds of employees it no longer seems to b e a good leader which can be seen resulting into scandals the company is facing (Vardaman, 2014). In order to improve such poor corporate culture in Toshiba where all the levels of management used the norm of going along with getting along and carried out inappropriate accounting practices continually. Leadership in managerial ethics would help out to improve such work culture and lead the team in an ethical way also encourage them to adopt ethical practices while working on their objectives (Gross, 2015). A strong leader only with positive attitude, philosophy and experience can lead a team without creating any such issues. In managerial ethics leadership is of an important aspect, a leader is the one to whom everybody follows and listen by getting their work done which turns the expectations into reality. A strong leader who promises to follow ethical behavior in the practice at all levels of management and keep a check on the activities continually. In Toshiba leaders poses a bad image by commanding them some unreal targets at the end of each quarter where there is no time to affect materially. Here leader themselves forces their team to go for unethical or illegal practices to meet their targets on time. The auditors even fail to detect errors and frauds in the account and finance department there it truly shows how weak and poor their internal control system are working. If auditors would have found out the inappropriate practice happening in the accounting techniques applied, the situation of this big scandal could have been avoided at an earlier stage only when it all began in 2008 in a global financial crisis (Du, 2017). The overstatement of profits for future and pushed back losses and bank charges can be found out way easier as it sounds but auditors ignored this fact to support leaders in their plan which gives rise to continue the process of adopting false accounting techniques to mark their success. This short term success has blinded leaders to carry on till it works for the best for them. The blindness motivates them too command the same to t heir employees and employees as well as workers get used to such practices in the meantime that they no longer feel the situation of ethical dilemma it becomes the regular thing to carry on such practice (Schniederjans, 2015). When employees are aware of the things they are doing was wrong and adopted unethical behavior in every aspect at every business unit it ultimately maligned the whole organization and it is no longer holding the position of an ethical business globally (May, 2014). After seeing such downturn in their business the leadership style of managerial ethics becomes the talking point in their organization to improve the current situation where they loss their goodwill in the eyes of public and competitors as well. The power is in hands of leaders to turn the situation around and bring its positive side. After applying a strong leadership in the management which consist of occupational ethics, legalism, managerial ethics and these divisions helps a leader to apply ethics at each department present in the organization to avoid situation of ethical dilemmas there (Greer et al., 2015). Another theoretical concept which can influence managerial practice in the organization (Toshiba) would be Ethical obligation or another synonym of the same would be Legalism. There are few domains of managerial ethics or human action namely Legal standard, Social standard and Personal standard. In these domains ethics lies in between yet it has no specific laws but have standards of conduct which are based on various rules and principles in reference to moral values. An unethical behavior clearly violates such moral conduct which are punishable in nature. These above mentioned domains has a defined level of control form high level to low level, the personal standard considered to be an low level of explicit control as it require to maintain a personal standard rather following any prescribed law the question arises here what could be the intensity of an personal standard as compare to legal standard where rules and regulations are framed keeping in mind the organizational nature (Li , 2017). The personal standard contains no such limitations as it is their own criteria to think what is right and what is wrong in a given situation they apply their philosophy which gave no guarantee of accuracy of the decision made according to it. Secondly, social standards contains mid-level of accuracy as these standards are made based on social conduct of values and moral. Whatever decision made by leaders following social standard known to be a domain of ethics is in the favor of society and not organization, it make sure that actions are taken keeping in mind that they dont harm society in anyway With all its pros, there are few cons along with it for example if Toshiba follows social standards and take actions keeping in mind the society but at the same time the actions taken affect organization in less beneficial way. Lastly, there is a high level of accuracy contained in Legal standard which is known to be a domain of codified law where laws and disciplines are set in th e alignment with every organization (Pollock, 2014). It is the best suited concept for Toshiba to improve their situation of ethical dilemma, the poor corporate culture and weak internal controls can be enriched by adapting legal standard in the managerial ethics. After studying all these concepts it is being clear that ethical obligations seems to be a good option to adopt by Toshiba which can result positively in the coming time for a longer term. It does require a span of time to hold a good position back in the global market as it is no easy task to obtain goodwill after such a big scandal. It only works for the betterment of the company (Ford, 2013). Conclusion The traditional ethical attitude to prevent ethical dilemma occur in organization at various levels of management is of the noticeable talk of the point currently. After studying the scandal that Toshiba has faced in past years, it is concluded that the reason behind such scandalous act was not one but many. There were faults and breaking of law at every department whether it is top level managers or low level management. The bad corporate culture and poor internal control drew attention of the investigators while investigating the case as these two factors are the holding pillars of the management who would take the whole business to different levels (Guiso, 2015). Leaders play the key role in influencing people working in an organization to work in an ethical manner, where in Toshiba it is evident how leaders have forced their employees to work in a way for some unachievable goals which ultimately forces them to adopt illegal practices in order to save themselves from the leaders a nd couldnt risk their jobs. This ethical dilemma took organization to such big issue where they lose their position in the global market. By studying the case and critically analyzing the theoretical concepts of managerial ethics it is a clear picture that how these concepts would influence managerial practice in the organization (Ruiz-Palomino, 2013). The illegal practices can be stop by applying these mentioned concepts by the leaders in the organization at all levels of management it helps in removing the doubts and dilemmas faced by employees in the work environment. The importance of a strong leader has been showcased in the essay which leads the organization into more ethical way. It is no easy task to execute steps and apply ethics in management in reality but efforts can be made to at least follow the norms which can improve the corporate culture of a company (Goetsch, 2014). Dubliners, death and paralysis Essay Example
Dubliners, death and paralysis Essay Joyce sees Dublin as being paralysed and dead he blames the British rule and the Cathoic Church for Dublins flawed and seedy nation. Joyce sees Dublin as being full of untrustworthy peope. A lot of characters in his stories are not to be trusted for example: Lennhen and Corley in The Two Gallants and the Peadophile in An Encounter. He felt life in Dublin had many limitations and this frustrated him. Which is why he makes death and paralysis very evident in the stories of The Dubliners, possibly to try to identify the cause of Dublins paralysis or to offer solutions. Joyce provides this theory through his use of characters, colours and decay. Charles Stewart Parnell an Irish MP who led the Irish Parliamentary Party was campaining in the later 19th century to persuade the British parliament to allow Ireland to govern itself (HomeRule. ) After his death in 1891 the campaign for Home Rule was weakened severly. That resulted, in Irish political life was without clear direction throughout the 1890s and the first decade of the 20th century. The lack of political leadership is made apparent in the dubliners by the atmosphere of paralysis which pervades the stories. Ireland was, in the time that the Dubliners was wrote was governed by England. The British controlled Ireland very strongly and you can see the reference for this in the Two Gallants that Ireland was being prostituted by her English conquerors is an interpretation of the image of the harp being plucked heedlessy for strangers by her masters hands near the Kildare Street club. The image of an Irish harp with her clothes about her knees. Joyce refers to priests, religous beliefs and spiritual experience appear throughout the stories in the dubliners and paint an unflattering portrait of religion. In Eveline their is a reference to a photo of a priest whose yellowing photograph hung on the wall which is Joyces use of colour to show the decay of the catholic church in Ireland, Joyce shows us the Catholic Church as corrupt and he paints an unflattering portrait of religion. I am not writing about The Sisters however I felt it important to comment about Father Flynn who goes mad in the confessional box, this the first appearnece of Religion and Joyce protrays it as a haunting but incompentant and dangerous component of Dublin life. The Strange man in An Encounter wears the same clothing as the priest in The Sisters, connecting his lascivous behaviour to the catholic church. The presence of religion suggests that religion traps Dubliners into thinking about their lives after death. Eveline, in the story that shares her name, gives up her chance at love by choosing her familiar life over an unknowan adventure, even though her familiar routines are tinged with sadness and abuse. The circularity of these Dubliners lives effectively traps them, perventing them from being receptive to new experineces and happines. Eveline has a hard life, caring for her father and family, her father is abusive, the loss of her mother has affected her and the rest of the family. Joyce also tells us that her brother Ernest was also dead and her childhood friend Tizzie Dunn was also dead this is the first mentioning of death, we came across in the books that I have read. Eveline also desires escape, escape from the oppressive, paralysed atmosphere of the city of Dublin. The dusty dirty streets of Dublin. She is presented with the opporunity to escape. The escape comes from the offer to run away with a man named Frank, with the threat of violence in mind, Eveline agrees to be Franks wife in their home in Buenos Aire means Clean air. Eveline is trying to escape from Dublin, she is leving the dusty dirty streets of Dublin to go to a place with good clean air, but she cant actually leave. The dusty Cretanne and her wondering where did al the dust come from. The dust may signify the decay of her homelife almost like she cant get rid of the dust, just like she cant escape her homelife. Evelines decission seems to be straight forward, an abrusive misserable life in Dublin or a new adventurous life in a distant with her boyfriend. However Eveline finds it impossible to leave. Eveline has lost the ability to believe in and carry through her dream of hope, love and escape, this is due to the environment that she is in . An environment of duty and responsbility and of course guilt for her promise to her dead mother. Her environment as turned her into a helpless animal, which we see at the end of the story passive, like a helpless animal. Which tells the reader that her enviromnet has drained her of all her strength and fortitude. She has given up the fight for happiness and just resigned herself to live a life of misery. Eveline in this story is suffering greatly with paralysis, the way she freezes on the pier, she is emontionless Her eyes gave him no sign of love or farewell Joyce gives us the impression that Eveline has almost resigned herself to a life of her mothers with the only prospect of a final lunacy awaiting her(quote from spark notes online). Eveline is helpless to move off the quayside, she cant pluck up the courage to leave, she remains trapped in her old life, caught in the paralysis of the city. Their is also a reference to religion in Eveline when we were told the priest is in Melbourne now Poeple were banished to Melbourne for commiting crimes so the priest may have been banished showing corruption in the cathoic church. It coud also be that The priest could have escaped from Dublin life, like Eveline was hoping to do. Mr James Duffy the main character of a painful case is an extermely organised man, he leads a solidary life and is content in doing so. Mr Duffy is also very pompous and self rightous, the evidence for this is during his time spent with Mrs Sincio, he is always trying to teach her about literature and music to better her. His relationship with Mrs Sinnco is a disruption to his orderly life, a situation hev feels he cannot control and that he feels he has to end for fear of change to his life. Joyces use of colour in a painful case helps the reader to imangine Mr Duffys life. His hazel walking stick, the beer and biscuits he eats, a rotten apple that is yellow and then brown (I feel that the apple is a symbolism of Mr Duffy decayed brown and rotten and unwanted. , even Mr Duffys face is brown, the brown tint of the Dublin streets. a symbol of a decaying Mr Duffy and a decaying Dublin. When Mrs Sinico and Mr Duffy start to meet up enjoying each others company reading, listening to music and talking, Mr Sinico pays no attention to the relationship forming between his wife and Mr Duffy He had dismissed his wife so sincerly from his gallery of pleasures that he did not suspect anyone else would take an interest in her. This showed the death of the Sinico marriage they were just co existing together. When Mrs Sinico advances her hand in intimacy to Duffy, but he retreats repulsed by her failure to understand, and he breaks off the relationship. When Mr Duffy is sitting in a cafe four years later and he finds the article called a painful case which is on buff coloured paper (a yellowish brown. ) Showing the death of her character, Mr Duffy then began to feel guilt and wonder did his rejection of her four years ago result in her sucide? He automatically turns it around to feel sorry for himself, when really he should be feeling sorry for Mrs Sincio or her family. Joyce as we know from the picture of the priest in Eveline, uses the colour yellow for corruption and brown for death, meaning that she has died a corrupt and weak woman, Mr Duffy also shows digust in her behaviour and her death and digust that he allowed himself to get clost to such a woman. Then he has a moment when he thinks of her in pity, pity for her loniness, however because of his selfcentred nature he starts to think of his own loniness and realises that he is not content with his hermitic lifestyle to which he has become accustomed to. We know this by his reaction to the couple in the park, who are having sex and making him feel even more alone in the world. He realises that his concern with orderand rectitude shut her out of his life, and this concern stops him from living fully, he is not interested in begining a new phrase in his life, but instead he bitterly accepts his loneliness. Mr Duffy seems incapable of genuine feeling and emotion and this seems to be inpart to blame for his painfull insularity and his obession with his predictable life costs him a golden chance at love and happiness. A painful case ended where it began with Mr Duffy alone. Corley and Lenehan refuse to grow old in Two Gallants, trapped in the paralysis that Joyce saw central to Dublin, therefore this story belongs to the adolscent stories of the Dubliners, even though the two are in their thirties. Corley and Lenehan are leeches, to give this story the title two gallants Joyce was using this title as a form of ironry because neither Corley or Lenehan are gallants. (gallants meaning to be brave or herotic. Corley takes advantage of the women, that he seduces, Lenehan does the same to friends, bartenders and Corley also. Donald Torchiana suggests that the stroy is on allegorical tale about the Anglo-Irish Ascendency and the culture or parasitiam and exploitation which they bred in Ireland. Their is evidence to support this theory, which would be in the referneces to the ascendency in the Kildare Street Club and in place names such as Shelbourne Hotel. The girl could be seen as a symbol of Ireland, representing Irelands depraved condition under colonial rule. Ireland is being prosituted by her English conquerors. This ambiguous connection between Lenehan and the harp is a national reference. When Lenehan enjoys his meal later on in the story his meal has the colours of the Irish flag the green peas and the orange ginger beer symbolishing the flag of Ireland and therefore in Joyces view Lenehan is a steorotypical Dubliner. At the start of the story Joyce describes Dublin as having a warm grey evening air and a gaily coloured crowd. Which Joyce is using colour to show the decay in Dublin the city itself and the people in it. Lenehan and Corley are both spirtualy dead in this story, they are scamming to get what they want, which in my opionion Joyce thought was quite typical of the people of Dublin using betrayel to make money, duping maids into stealing from their employers. Every main character in the three stories that I choose had deep moral and spritual paralysis and spritual death, with each character having a decision or situation which either inhibitits their well being or self estem and prohibits their ability to move forward. All three stories that I studied didnt have a happy ending, Joyce saw Dublin to never have a happy ending so he shows this in his stories. Dubliners are paralysed from acting or living decisively or even consciously. Joyce once told his brother stonislaus the city is suffering from hemiplegia of the will (Stuart Gilbert, ed. the letters of James Joyce, Faber 1957. ) He also described his intention to write The Dubliners as the desire to betray the soul of the hemiplegia or paralysis which may consider a city. The theme of praralysis and death is evident in every story in the Dubliners which I have come to the conclusion that this the way Joyce sees Dublin as a dead city diseased with paralysis, a city which one would want to escape from.

The Id in Macbeth Essays
The Id in Macbeth Essays The Id in Macbeth Paper The Id in Macbeth Paper The id, according to Freud, represented innate desires such as hunger, sex, and anger. In looking at Macbeth one would assume that Lady Macbeth, being power- hungry as she was, would represent this component, however, these traits were evident in Macbeth himself. In Act II Machetes old drives him to kill Duncan and although his desire is shadowed by that of Lady Macbeth, ultimately he kills, demonstrating the part of Macbeth that is his old. As the play progresses Machetes old becomes Increasingly dominant. In act Ill, scene IV, Macbeth declares, We are yet but young In deed, foreshadowing that his most evil of actions are yet to come. The final act captures the essence of Frauds Idea of the old In Machetes statement While I see lives, the gashes do better upon them, meaning that Macbeth was willing to harm any life that was in his way. Masculinity is another symbol for the id throughout this play. Lady Macbeth questions Machetes masculinity several times at one point asking, are you a man? She also uses manhood when convincing Macbeth to kill Duncan. Later, when Macbeth decides to have Banquet killed he uses masculinity to convince the murderers. He says, ay, in the catalogue ye go for men/ As hounds and greyhounds, mongrels, spaniels, curs/Soughs, water-rugs, and deem-wolves are slept/ All by the name of dogs (actual sentences-96). In Machetes utilization of masculinity to convince the men to kill, It Is further supported that emasculation Is a symbol for the old. Since Lady Macbeth uses this method frequently, It Is evident why one would assume she represents the old, when In reality, she does not. Alternatively, Macbeth has recurring hallucinations that represent the decency in him. Is this a dagger which I see before me, he exclaims, hallucinating, the handle toward my hand, this hallucination occurring in act II supports the idea that perhaps Machetes hallucinations are metaphors for his superego. This represents the moral part of humans. It pulls a person to do the right thing, opposing the old. Although many critics disagree with the idea that Macbeth is a good person, these hallucinations show the existence of a superego, meaning he has some morality thin him. After he commits the murder Macbeth says Will all great Neptune ocean wash the blood clean from my hands? (Actual scene). This is another example of Machetes superego being revealed. The final component In Frauds theory Is the Idea of the Ego which Is the part that maintains a balance between the old and the Superego. Naturally, there would need to be some type of mediator between the two as they are polar opposites. Unnaturally Tort Machete Nils ego Is Tautly Ana ones up Dealing ten reason Tort ten destruction he causes. During the dinner in Act Ill Machetes old and Superego come in direct contact with one another and it results in madness. Macbeth has a hallucination of Banquet, a surfacing of his Superego, in the midst of his Ids every increasing power over him. Theoretically, when the Superego and the old conflict, or when the ego fails to maintain balance between the two, it results in anxiety. When told to take his seat, Macbeth, seeing a ghost of Banquet in his chair, replies with, the tables full. This is the first indicator of the internal collision that is about to occur. Machetes anxiety and unease is demonstrated where now his words and fear are uncontrollable. In this direct clash of Superego and d, Shakespeare reveals Machetes weak Ego in its inability to manage the two extremes within him. Ultimately Macbeth is a story about a man who is neither in conflict with his power-hungry wife, or his lack of character, but his inability to balance between two extremes fighting within him. Shakespeare wrote Macbeth about a man who had a flawed Ego and the calamity that occurred as a result.

Employment Relations 2 Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Employment Relations 2 - Essay Example Ever since the need for the department has become prominent, it has made great strides and has evolved completely, the functions that we see any human resources department performing today are very different from the functions that it performed 2 or 3 decades ago, this is ample evidence to judge the importance of the role that human resources departments now perform in any given company. Employment relations means the relationship that exists between the employer and the employees and the factors that affect this bond are some institutional factors which would be discussed in detail later on in the paper, these factors are basically the economic, political and the cultural factors and how they affect the relationship of the employer and the employee and the role of the human resources department in tackling the various issues that may arise due to the impact of these factors is looked into in detail. The employment relation also looks into the rights that the employees have over the employer and the rights that the employer have over the employee, it also defines what needs to be done in different situations when a breach has been made by either party. Economic factors can also have an effect on the employment relation of the firm, for example in the micro economic context if the demand for the firms products goes down rapidly due to substitutes being now available at a cheaper market price then the firm would have to react to this negative factor in the environment and reply by having either lower prices or higher quality goods, but if the price has to be decreased some of the labor might have to be laid off and that can really hurt the relationship between the firm and its employees. If a labor union is involved then it would definitely protest against laying off for this reason and might threaten to halt all labor activities if the decision of the firm is not taken back. These are some decisions that the firm has to make very carefully and take the union into full confidence before announcing any such decision. On the other hand macroeconomic factors can also have a bearing on the firm and its relationship with the employees or trade unions, if the inflation level is extremely high and the company finds that it needs to cut down on costs or close a wing down then the same problems would ensue as those that have been mentioned above, but with measures such as negotiations and direct dialogue between the company and the trade unions such barriers can be overcome but there might be times when the issue would have to be resolved by putting the foot down, in that case the firm might have to pay a hefty price in the short term but in the long run it would be beneficial for the firm (Ed. 2008). Employees of any company have the right to join a labor union and that labor union has the right to represent that employee. Demand factors may reduce the facilities that are given to employees by the employer as this would translate into lower costs for the employee, this might be an alternative solution for laying off people and there have been examples where labor unions have accepted or brokered such deals where the w hole labor force would accept a lower wage when economic conditions are bad so that no one from the organization is laid off. Another factor is the political scenario or the political situation of the country that the firm is
